This drum is made with Hawaiian Koa wood, it is a dark chocolate wood; no stain is used. The drum is built with the stave construction method. This particular drum was made by cutting out 18 "staves" that have both a taper, and a bevel on each side of 10 degrees. The staves are glued with a very strong waterproof plastic resin glue, then clamped.
